Welcome to my e-portfolio

Hi, I'm Lauryn Simmons, a rising senior journalism major at Howard University. I aspire to expand my experiences as a reporter through avenues such as Investigative Reporting,  multimedia editing, and eventually producing video articles on YouTube.

ABOUT ME

My experience as a journalist began in 2022 when I became a National Youth Correspondent for the Washington Journalism and Media Conference, hosted by George Mason University. While there, I was able to gain firsthand experience and testimonials from industry professionals. In that week I spent at WJMC, I knew I was in the right profession and that WJMC inducted the right student reporter. Since then, I have gained experience in writing articles, producing news packages, multimedia editing (photography and video), graphic design, using professional editing softwares like Final Cut Pro, and social media management.

Videography Works

My iPhone camera and my Sony ZV-E10 II are my best friends when it comes to videography. All videos provided below are captured, edited, and brought to life by me! Every frame, audio decibel, and angle serves a purpose in my editing lab. My goal is to support anyone’s creative vision for the purpose of portraying a deeper message. So, if you ever need social media content, I'm your girl!

Multimedia Project: "Song Association"

Lauryn facilitated this project as the curator, writer, and editor. This project was inspired by the YouTube game phenomenon, as featured on ELLE. Students were timed and given a series of words and were then tasked with providing a song based on the given word.

Multimedia Project: "Spring VS Summer"

Lauryn facilitated this project as the curator, writer, editor, and director. In this project, students were given a series of "this or that" questions to decide whether or not students prefer the spring or summer season. Get it? Whether? Homophones are a hoot!

Multimedia Project: "Class of 2023: Today's Moments, Tomorrow's Memories"

Lauryn facilitated this project as the curator, writer, and editor. This project was targeted towards Lauryn's graduating class of 2023 at her local high school. Students were asked to recall some of their most fond memories of high school for old times' sake.

Best of Both Worlds

Below, I've shared one of the excerpts from when I was featured in an interview about my experience as a pre-professional dancer. Experiences like these provided valuable insight into my skill set by allowing me to speak with local journalists firsthand, hear their stories, and share mine. As a journalist, I aspire to offer my perspective on being both the interviewer and the one being interviewed.

PBS Publication: "Detroit Performs"

In February of 2023, as a company dancer with the Detroit School of Arts Dance Department, the Dance Workshop company performed for a PBS program titled Detroit Performs. Within that program, dancer Lauryn Simmons was interviewed by the program's host Satori Shakoor.
